BOOKS
Meet some of my previous personalities! As Alexa Young, I’ve written a bunch of novels (mostly Disney or Mouse-adjacent) for kids and teens, and as Alexa Joy Sherman, I’m the coauthor of two nonfiction books (one def for adults). Have they aged well? Would you enjoy reading them? Are they even available anymore? You’re welcome to try the links and find out!
BONUS: If you become a paid subscriber, I might even send you a signed copy of one.
Frenemies is a series I wrote for HarperTeen and Alloy Entertainment. The four books were bestsellers and graphic novels…in France. (The series was canceled in the U.S. as soon as the second book came out; the publishing business is crazy.) It also inspired a Disney TV-movie co-starring Zendaya (though I’m not sure she’d want to admit it, let alone put it on her CV).
I wrote three books adapted from the Disney Channel TV series Girl Meets World, which starred a very young Sabrina Carpenter as a rebellious badass. She even sang the theme song. I always knew she’d go far (I did)!
An original novel inspired by the Disney Channel TV series Andi Mack. I loved sending the main character on a road-trip to a Coachella-like music festival with her young mom (whom she was raised to believe was her sister…whaaaat?).
I had a blast writing this prequel to the Star Darlings twelve-book series, created by Ahmet Zappa and Shana Muldoon Zappa. It’s got lots of girl power appeal.
Based on the Disney Channel show Mech-X4, this is probs the only book I’ve written (well, adapted) that would appeal to boys.
The Gen-X Rated
My first real book deal! I co-wrote The Happy Hook-up with my friend Nicole from the music business days. She originally pitched it to me with the title Walk of Shame but our publisher thought that was too negative. Written in the early aughts when Sex and the City was huge, the book offers lots of outdated advice, and some super-cringe sections that I wish I could delete or at least revise. Don’t say I didn’t warn you…
The only good thing about this book is probably the title (which, yes, was all me).
